5 Most Popular Residential Districts to Buy a Property in Singapore

Queenstown was one of the first residential zones in Singapore to be used as a proving ground for the government’s public housing programs. It was the first satellite town to spring up around this area.

#3 – KATONG/JOO CHIAT/SIGLAP- South East

Katong, Joo Chiat, and Siglap are just a few of the communities that make up Singapore’s East Coast. The East Coast is perhaps one of the most popular residential districts to acquire real estate for a variety of reasons. The district’s greatest appeal, though, is that it has a good mix of landed residences and condominiums. These residential communities are blessed with ocean views and a pleasant sea breeze.

Another factor is the local cuisine.  Local cafés and eateries line the streets of Katong and Joo Chiat, making the East Coast district a food paradise. Katong laksa is a well-known delicacy in the area, and it is one of Singapore’s most popular dishes both among locals and tourists.

Most people opt to live in the eastern coastal neighborhood of Singapore because of its laid-back atmosphere. There are many different types of residences to select from. #4 – NOVENA/ROBERTSON QUAY – Central

Novena is a residential district in Singapore’s Central Region that comprises primarily mid-to-high-end private residential units, with relatively few public housing options. With the construction of numerous new and stunning retail malls in the previous two decades, Novena has been considered a shopper’s paradise. 

Robertson Quay on the other hand is a local favorite spot for a night out with friends or family. The neighborhood features a diverse mix of foreign and local restaurants, cafés, art galleries, wine bars, and residential units, making it an attractive location for both locals and tourists. It is nestled at the furthest reaches of the Singapore River and is one of three main wharfs in Singapore, along with Boat Quay and Clarke Quay.

The majority of the properties in the neighborhood are condo units and landed houses. Usually, the people who live here must regularly commute into and out of the central business district for work. The district’s recent growth into a thriving commercial district has further attracted a vast range of homeowners and potential property buyers throughout the years. #5 – TOA PAYOH/BALESTIER

The two major town centers in District 12 are Toa Payoh and Balestier. The area is very accessible and offers a good mix of affordable public and private housing. 

Many shops line the streets of Toa Payoh Town Centre. The mall is L-shaped, with two plazas. In the first plaza, there is a branch library and a cinema, while in the second plaza, there is an area office and a post office. The HDB headquarters are located at HDB Hub, a major commercial complex that is immediately connected to the Toa Payoh MRT Station and houses the air-conditioned Toa Payoh Bus Interchange.

Balestier on the other hand is a historic district located in the central district of Singapore. The area boasts plenty of shopping malls and food centers which makes the area part of the most popular residential districts to live in.
